How do I prepare my home for sale?

Preparing for market doesn't mean transforming the house. The goal is to remove distractions and make the home easy for a buyer to understand.

Start outside

Before a buyer is through the door:

Declutter

You don't need an empty house. But reducing excess furniture and personal items makes rooms easier to read and easier to photograph. Pay particular attention to:

Repair the obvious

A loose handle or a damaged wall is cheap to fix and expensive to leave. Small visible faults make buyers wonder what else has been left, and that suspicion is applied to everything they cannot inspect.

Clean more than usual

Think in photographs

Most buyers will see your home on a screen before they see it in person, and they decide whether to book a viewing from those images. So the useful test in each room is a narrow one:

What will this room say in one photograph?

Your home does not need to look like a showroom. It needs to look cared for, easy to understand, and ready for the next person.
